Dr. Mark T. Madsen is a Professor of Radiology at the University of Iowa. He received his Ph.D. degree from the Medical Physics program at the University of Wisconsin in 1979 and was certified in Medical Nuclear Physics by the American Board of Radiology in 1983. He was employed at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for 9 years before going to the University of Iowa in 1988. Dr. Madsen areas of interest include clinical nuclear medicine physics, image processing, emission computed tomography, internal radiation dosimetry and abnormality manipulation of tomographic images for image perception research. He has 78 peer reviewed publications and has participated in more than 15 grant projects funded by the US National Institutes of Health. He has been an active member and has served on major committees of the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI), the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM), the American College of Radiology (ACR) and the American Board of Radiology (ABR). He is a Fellow of both the AAPM and ACR. Dr. Madsen teaches nuclear medicine physics and instrumentation to student technologists and nuclear medicine residents at the University of Iowa and has given numerous educational presentations at the annual meetings for the SNMMI, the AAPM and the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) as has hosted nuclear medicine physics workshops at the University of Iowa.
