RPW2: Transportation of Radioactive Material
& I-131 Therapy Applications

  • Radiation safety officers
  • Health and medical physicists
  • Nuclear medicine and medical imaging professionals
  • Radiologic technologists and radiologists
  • Environmental health and safety and industrial hygiene professionals

Prerequisites:  Radiation Protection Refresher Course

Workshop Description:

Participants in this workshop will gain practical experience in the daily operational tasks of a Radiation Safety Officer.  In particular, participants will learn about;

    • Radioactive Waste Management
    • Receiving and shipping of packages containing radioactive material
    • I-131 Therapy dose administration, Measurement, Patience dismissal, Room decontamination and waste disposal/ storage
    • Contamination clean up

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand fully the national and international standards and regulations on the transportation of radioactive material
  2. Becoming familiar with methods and techniques related to storage and disposal of radioactive waste
  3. Develop a practical understanding of the role of radiation safety staff in I-131 therapy
