I was born in Baltimore MD and attending school at Johns Hopkins University where I majored in physical chemistry and physiology and played lacrosse, then I went to the University of Maryland for medical school. After doing an internship in internal medicine at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center, I did my radiology residency at the University of Washington and fellowship at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle. I took a position as an assistant professor at the University of Texas, Houston for 3 years, then moved back to Seattle and have been at the University of Washington since.

I got married in 1988, and we adopted a son, now 14 from Guatemala. My wife and I have travelled all over the world including most of South and Central America, Africa, Asia and Europe. We both speak Spanish and I have been a visiting professor in Latin America numerous times, and my wife serves as translator and lead recovery room nurse for a group of orthopedic surgeons who travel to Guatemala yearly to repair club feet and congenital hip dysplasias in children.

We are avid campers and backpackers and have hiked all over the Pacific Northwest, and I love all things related to water sports including scuba diving, swimming, fishing and sailing. We are both great cooks, especially my wife and we enjoy all food from all over the world. I coach high school lacrosse, read constantly, watch movies and plays, and I go to the gym almost everyday. I am truly delighted to get the opportunity to come to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and I’m sure the experience will be a part of me always.
