Description

The 3D Printing & Visualization Track is one of major scientific tracks in the 6th International Conference on Radiation Medicine (ICRM2020), which will take place in February 9-13, 2020 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

3D printing & Visualization has brought great innovative approaches to the medical field. Using 3D Printing made it possible and easy to patient specific health care solutions, a step towards personalized medicine.

By 3D Visualization we mean advanced technologies to visualize medical images of all imaging modalities in a different platform, using advanced 3D segmentation & Virtual/Augmented/Mixed Reality (VR/AR/MR or shortly XR) technologies. These technological advancements provide physicians and medical professionals with a new visualization dimension that helps in providing more accurate diagnosis and treatment options for patient.

In the 3D printing & Visualization Track, we will introduce the technologies and learn from specialized physicians how such technologies can be integrated to provide better clinical patient specific medical services, which can be considered as a step towards implementing personalized medicine to our patients.

Registration Fee: SR 200
Workshop Code: 3DW03
Date & Time/Duration: Sunday- February 09, 2020; 10:30 - 14:45
Venue: Alfaisal University
Maximum Capacity: 25
Coordinator: Waleed Althobaity M.D , Consultant Musculoskeletal Radiology, KFSH&RC
Instructor:
  • Waleed Althobaity M.D (Course director, Presenter)
  • Adnan Sheikh. M.D (Presenter)
  • Nora Alsoraya (Presenter)
  • Mohammed Armman ( Materialise software technical support)

Target Audience: This workshop is aimed for medical practuoners including Radiologist, Physician, Technologist, Students in addition to Biomedical Engineers who are interested in the medical 3D printing, accurate imaging segmentation and Post imaging file preparing to generate accurate 3D Printing Models.

Prerequisites (if applicable): NA

Workshop Description:
'3D printing' is a rapid manufacturing technique to produce a physical model from a digital file with layer-by-layer deposition. 3D printing in medicine has been expanded in the last years and widely used in pre-surgical planning, patient’s specific guide and instruments creation and education. One of the major medical specialty application of 3D printing is orthopedic. The purpose of this hands-on course is to teach the attendee how they create 3D printing bone/orthopedic model from a standard Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) data using Materialize Mimics software. The attendee will be given access to Materialize Mimics software and general overview of the software functions will be demonstrated initially. After that step by step demonstration how they can do bone/orthopedic model starting from importing the DICOM file, accurate segmentation of the region of interested and creation of the part. The created part from the region of interest then will imported in the 3Matic CAD software for post processing editing, smoothing and wrapping. After that stereolithography (STL) file format will be generated which is the primary file format accepted by the 3D printers. During the workshop there will be PowerPoint demonstration of each step and imaging of the final models.

Learning Objectives:
  • To learn about basic 3D printing technologies and basic application of 3D printing
  • To learn how to segment a medical imaging scan with Materialize Mimics software and export that anatomy of interest into a digital 3D printable model.
  • To perform Post-processing editing and designing using Computer Aided Designing (CAD) software 3-Matic for smoothing, wrapping and designing prior to physical creation of the 3D model.

Workshop Description: 3D Printing of Orthotic & Prosthetic Devices eliminates requirement of multistep, elaborate and often hazardous fabrication process. It not only saves time of fabrication, but also ensures consistent quality of end product. Fabrication of Orthotic & Prosthetic devices depends heavily on hand skill. Use of 3D printing reduces dependency on hand skill and instead allows complicated designs to be fabricated with ease. 3D printing also allows replication of device to precision when needed. Process of 3D printing allows all patient measurements and information be stored digitally thereby saving lot of physical space.

Learning Objectives:
  • To have basic understanding of 3D printing of Orthotic & Prosthetic Devices.
  • To learn, how to scan an Orthotic & Prosthetic device for 3D printing .
