The course begins by discussing the recent AAPM/IAEA code of practice for small beam dosimetry, what constitutes the definition of small radiation beams and the main recommendations of the dose of practice. It then proceeds to discuss the behavior of various chambers (gas-filled and solid state) in small radiation beams and how to apply the daisy chain method for the output factor measurements. The concept of machine-specific-field (msr) is also discussed with clinical examples from Cyberknife. The course has a component of hands-on training that shows the proper method of setting up the water phantom and chambers within the small field.
