Workshop Description:

This joint IAEA/WHO/KFSHRC workshop concerns the  implementation in Diagnostic Radiology of the International Radiation Basic Safety Standards (BSS). It is organized in presentations of  20 minutes given by the representatives of IAEA and WHO  followed by short talks given by local speakers who will focus on the following topics:  

  • Key challenges/ issues and proposed solutions for enhancing justification of the use of radiation in medical imaging
  • Key challenges / issues and proposed solutions for enhancing optimization in radiology
  • Key elements for establishing and maintaining a radiation safety culture in radiology
  • Other identified issues/proposed solutions for improving safety and quality in radiology
  • Roles and responsibilities for the implementation of the BSS in Diagnostic Radiology
  • Occupational/public exposure in Diagnostic Radiology (eg. new dose limits, shielding requirements, etc)
