Michel Mawad, M.D. is an Interventional Neurosurgeon at the Neurological Institute in Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. Dr. Mawad completed his training in Interventional Neurosurgical procedures at the New York Neurological Institute, Columbia University Hospitals in New York City. Over the past 35 years, he has worked at several US academic institutions in the field of cerebrovascular disease where he pioneered numerous novel minimally invasive techniques for the treatment of Cerebral Aneurysms, Arteriovenous Malformations, Stroke, Congenital Vascular Anomalies, etc.
He has helped develop the discipline of Interventional Neurosurgery over the World and has held numerous prestigious leadership positions including the Presidency of the World Federation of Interventional & Therapeutic Neuroradiology (WFITN).
Prior to moving to the UAE, Dr. Mawad was the Chairman of the Department of Radiology at Baylor College of Medicine and the Director of the Neurovascular Center at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital in Houston, Texas. There, he was very active in patient care, education and research. During his tenure at Baylor, Dr. Mawad was responsible for the training and education of over 100 physicians in the fields of Diagnostic Radiology, Neuroradiology and Interventional Neurosurgery.
His clinical interests and expertise are in the diagnosis and treatment of: Stroke, Cerebral aneurysms, visceral aneurysms, Cerebral AVMs., Spinal vascular malformations, Congenital vascular Birthmarks, etc..
