Workshop Description:
Ultrasound guidance for venous access has evolved to become the standard of care when performing central venous catheterization. Since 2001, many national organizations have recommended that central venous catheterization be performed under real-time ultrasound guidance.
Many practicing physicians would like to be better trained in ultrasound-guided procedures, but few training opportunities exist.
The goal of this workshop is to teach physicians the basic ultrasound skills needed to perform ultrasound-guided venous access. The hands-on sessions will give participants ample opportunity to practice ultrasound imaging on live models, and practice placement of central venous catheters with real-time ultrasound guidance on simulation models.
Learning Objectives:
• Become familiar with the fundamental principles of ultrasound technology and the basic operation of a ultrasound machine.
• Become familiar with the ultrasound appearance of neck and femoral vessels for performing central line placement.
• Practice the technique for placing ultrasound-guided central and peripheral venous lines.
• Review the potential procedural complications of the central and peripheral line placement.
