RPW7: Uncertainty Calculations in Calibration and Dosimetry
Date & Time: February, 25, 2016, Thurs 11:15-12:15 Venue: King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre, Room #304, 3rd Flr, Research Centre
Coordinator: Mehenna Arib, PhD, Head Secondary Standard Dosimetry Laboratory., Biomedical Physics Dept., KFSH&RC, email: marib@kfshrc.edu.sa
Workshop Faculty: Dr. Mehenna Arib
Target Audience: Medical Physicists, Dosimetrists, Health Physicists
Prerequisites: Basics of statistical calculations
Workshop Description:
The workshop will focus on the Uncertainty calculation applied for therapy and protection level calibration as well as for the dosimetry of ionizing radiations. It is mainly based on lectures and practical calculations using internationally recommended procedures including:
Basic rules for uncertainty calculation
Accuracy versus precision
Type A and B uncertainties
Confidence level
Evaluation of the uncertainty components
Uncertainty calculation in the calibration of ionization chambers used in radiotherapy
Uncertainty calculation in the calibration of survey-meters used in radiation protection
Uncertainty calculation in the determination of absorbed dose to water
Uncertainty calculation in personal monitoring
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this workshop, attendees should be able to demonstrate their understanding of the uncertainty basics and be able evaluate the uncertainty components of any experimentally determined quantity (calibration factor/Coefficient, Absorbed dose to water, personal dose equivalent…etc.).
